Philippe Clement confident on Jack Butland’s Rangers future

Rangers boss Philippe Clement has completely played down any suggestion of Jack Butland leaving the club in the near future.

Rangers had a big task over the summer as Allan McGregor left the club and needed to be replaced.

Those are big shoes – or rather gloves – to fill and Rangers had to go for a fairly big signing.

In came Jack Butland, who was leaving Crystal Palace after a loan spell with Manchester United.

A former England international who lost his way with Stoke City and Palace, Butland needed to get back on track – and he is certainly doing that with Rangers.

Philippe Clement comments on Jack Butland’s Rangers future

Butland has been outstanding this season, one of the few Michael Beale summer signings to make a big impact at Ibrox.

There have been surprising rumours about Butland’s future though with Birmingham City allegedly keen.

New Blues boss Wayne Rooney reportedly wants to take Butland back to Birmingham having come up in their ranks.

We can’t see that deal happening any time soon and new Rangers boss Philippe Clement has now outlined his plans for Butland.

Speaking to the Daily Record, Clement noted that Butland has been outstanding on the pitch but also a big personality in the dressing room.

Clement added that Butland will ‘definitely’ be a key player for the coming years, believing Rangers will build around him.

“For sure, I’m really happy with Jack being here. Not only on the pitch with his performances but also outside and in the dressing room,” said Clement. “In the way he works, the way he acts and his personality. Jack is going to be one of the key figures for me to build a team around for the next couple of years, definitely,” he added.

Butland would be mad to join Birmingham City right now anyway

Rooney has come name power at Birmingham and potential signings may well love the idea of working with a legend.

It isn’t going well right now though as Rooney has lost all three of his games in charge of Birmingham since landing the job earlier this month.

Birmingham fans are already questioning just why the club sacked John Eustace in order to bring in Rooney.

Conversely, Rangers are unbeaten under new manager Clement, claiming two wins and one draw in his three games.

Rangers and Birmingham seem to be heading in different directions right now and Butland is better off with the stability of shining at Ibrox for years to come rather than making a strange move back to Birmingham.
