Oscar Cortes has signed a deal with Rangers with all that’s left an official announcement at the club – with the ongoing delay raising fears over Deadline Day striker disappointment.

Don’t get us wrong; the fact the Gers are closing in on a loan-to-buy deal for the RC Lens winger is very much a good thing.

A talented young Colombian winger who only six months ago commanded a €4.5m (£3.8m) fee, there’s understandably palpable excitement about signing Oscar Cortes.

Oscar Cortes reportedly seals Rangers switch

The 20-year-old is set for a six month audition over a permanent move to Glasgow and everyone at Ibrox is willing the kid on to steal the show in Philippe Clement’s side.

But with any delay to an announcement all on the side of Rangers as things stand, it’s got fans wondering if the right-winger will be the club’s only deadline day announcement.

Andy Newport has taken to X to claim that all the particulars have been particular’d when it comes to Cortes, who is now set to complete the move.

With the the t’s crossed and i’s dotted, the journalist is claiming everyone is just waiting for Rangers to announce a deal.

Now, unless the club do this momentarily after this article is published – and that might well just be our luck – then it’s had fans wondering over the club’s strategy here.

Transfer fear over Ibrox striker berth

Whilst Rangers fans are certainly grateful for a productive transfer window so far, Oscar Cortes set to join Fabio Silva and Mohamed Diomande at Ibrox, there’s still the small matter of a striker.

The situation with Lawrence Shankland seems to be on the verge of a stalemate even if there is neither Rangers or Hearts have officially ruled out a transfer.

But with Danilo, Kemar Roofe and Abdallah Sima out for the long-term, and Cyriel Dessers inconsistent up top, fans have the fear we’re going into phase two of the Clement era a tad undercooked in the final third.

It’s something which is multiplied by the apparent delay in the announcement of Oscar Cortes, who by all accounts appears to already be a Rangers player.
