Rewind to 2018 and Rangers were trying to nab a one-time Man City prospect in Kean Bryan as part of the Steven Gerrard revolution.

The Ibrox gaffer was looking to add numbers to a flailing defence with ex-England youth international Bryan, then only 21, a potential option from the Citizens.

The deal got so close that the likes of TalkSPORT were reporting it as done as the centre-back headed to Glasgow for a medical.

But according to the Scottish Sun, Rangers pulled the plug on a deal at the last minute after offering a three-year contract worth £2.5m

Three years later and the Rangers are Champions, but for Kean Bryan things haven’t worked out quite so well. For now at least.

Just days after failing to sign for Rangers, Bryan made his move to Sheffield United, signing a three-year deal when the Blades were in the Championship.

Kean, now 24, struggled to get game time in his first two seasons at Bramall Lane but made 13 Premier League appearances in the last campaign as United were relegated.

After that, Bryan was released following the expiration of his contract but according to one leading journalist, the one-time box-to-box midfielder remains hot property.

Alan Nixon has claimed that English Championship sides Blackburn Rovers and Middlesbrough are considering a deal for the player:

If only Bryan had managed to get that Ibrox move over the line, things might’ve been quite different for a defender once tipped to make it to the top.

Speaking of Rangers defenders and 2018, reports that this fan favourite is set to leave have been quickly rubbished by sources close to the club and player.
