Nottingham Forest are set to face stiff transfer competition in the hunt for released Strasbourg defender Alexander Djiku – as Rangers watch on with regards Jonathan Panzo.

According to Foot Mercato, Turkish giants Fenerbahce have “entered the business” when it comes to signing Alexander Djiku, who is a free agent this summer.

Alongside Premier League Nottingham Forest, the 28-year-old Ghanaian international centre-back is said to be interesting Ligue 1 Lille whilst Trabzonspor and Besiktas have also been mentioned in Turkey. TSG Hoffenheim are being linked in Germany.

Rangers, whilst not linked to Alexander Djiku, may well have a vested interest in what goes on with regards those Nottingham Forest links given the club’s interest in Jonathan Panzo.

Whilst reports that Rangers had struck a £3m deal with Nottingham Forest over Jonathan Panzo were short-lived, the Ibrox side are said to be battling clubs in England and Germany for the 22-year-old former England youth international.

Potential Alexander Djiku domino in Rangers Jonathan Panzo pursuit

Having spent last season on loan at Coventry City, it certainly appears like Nottingham Forest are open to a sale but signing a first-team replacement in Alexander Djiku may well be a key domino in the player being moved on.

You’d think that Nottingham Forest would be easy enough to deal with too given that former Rangers sporting director Ross Wilson is the man in the Premier League club’s most senior recruitment role.

Alexander Djiku continues to mull over his options this summer and Nottingham Forest appear to be taking their time when it comes to negotiations over their own players too, including Jonathan Panzo.

Rangers have been linked to a number of left-sided centre-backs this summer with the former Chelsea Academy star, who worked with Michael Beale in West London, an interesting option.

There have been claims that Rangers were priced out of a move for Arsenal centre-back Auston Trusty, whilst the club have lost injury-prone Swedish international centre-back Filip Helander this summer.

Jonathan Panzo made 32 appearances on loan at Coventry City last season and has only made one appearance during his time at Nottingham Forest.
