Norwich City star receives major injury boost as Rangers reportedly eye January swoop

In mid-November, the Scottish Sun reported that Rangers were eyeing up a January swoop for Norwich City midfielder Kenny McLean.

It was asserted that the Gers were aware of McLean’s bit-part role at Carrow Road and would try to bring him to Ibrox either in a deal paid in a series of instalments or on an initial loan with an obligation to buy.

A week later, the Scotland international suffered a knee injury that Norwich boss Daniel Farke believed might see him miss four to five months of action, should it require surgery [Scottish Sun].

At that stage, it looked unlikely that he would be fit and available before the end of the January window.

However, in a significant boost for the player and possibly the Gers, Farke confirmed earlier this week that his player wouldn’t be going under the knife.

“For the long term, some good news,” Farke told Canaries.co.uk. “Kenny McLean could have been out for four or five months but that’s not the case. He could be back around Christmas.”

McLean is under contract at Norwich until 2023, while it remains to be seen how concrete Rangers’ interest is, as Steven Gerrard already has plenty of options in central midfield.

Ryan Jack is currently out through injury, but ahead of the Europa League clash against Standard Liege, the manager could pick any three of Steven Davis, Glen Kamara, Scott Arfield, Joe Aribo and Bongani Zungu.

McLean supported the club as a boy, though, so if Rangers table an offer, he may find it hard to turn down.
