Northern Premier League club Matlock Town have had a tongue in cheek response to dubious transfer claims surrounding Rangers, Leeds United and Ryan Kent.
An unsubstantiated and notorious transfer account going by the name of Roger Azul caught plenty of expectant Leeds United fans in its net by tweeting about interest ahead of the window closing.
Leeds United have been long-term admirers of the Rangers winger, who signed on at Ibrox in a £7m deal from Liverpool in 2019 [Times].
“Leeds United are very interested in Rangers’ Ryan Kent and look likely to activate clause in his contract allowing an agreed bid from “a northern Premier League club”,” tweeted the account.
“Working on that bid amount. Rangers braced to lose a key man.”
Seemingly missing the claims of a reduced release clause which is specific to northern England, Leeds United fans didn’t realise they’d be done up like a kipper, with some bluenoses being caught out too.
Plenty bit to the baited hook as the transfer window nerves continue to jangle with trolling and misinformation aplenty as fans get desperate to see their sides make investments.
Matlock Town respond to Ryan Kent Leeds United links
Leeds United might’ve had two bids rejected for Rangers star Ryan Kent in the past but it was Matlock Town who responded to the links on Twitter.
The Northern Premier League sits at the 7th tier of English football and covers 81 teams across four divisions in Northern England.
Matlock Town saw the funny side of the links and took to Twitter to confirm that they were not a “Northern Premier League club” interested in Ryan Kent.
Whilst anything can happen on deadline day, we wouldn’t advise any Rangers fans to take these links between Ryan Kent and Leeds United seriously.
The transfer window does present a nervous situation for the Gers however, with the Ibrox club eager to wrap up their own deals whilst keeping their best talent at the club.
The Ibrox side have announced another Gers deal as the club move to secure a talented international for the next two-and-a-half years.
