“No truth” in rumours Rangers have struck deal with Chelsea player

There is “no truth” in rumours a deal has been agreed between Rangers and Chelsea regarding a summer loan move for Billy Gilmour.

Every single transfer window is awash with talk surrounding the 20–year-old former Ibrox Academy midfielder given Billy’s historic links to the club.

There have been murmurs in the press regarding potential Rangers interest after Gilmour had a disappointing season on loan with relegated Premier League side Norwich City.

However, online some people may have seen much talk from apparently in the know Tweets and fans who claim a deal is nudging towards completion.

Whilst we must reiterate that this is coming purely from speculation and not from any concrete source, the latest from Heart & Hand quashes all the talk and pours hot water over any prospective links.

“There has been a lot of chat about Billy Gilmour potentially coming to Rangers on loan,” claims David Edgar, speaking on the Heart & Hand Daily Update [24/05/22].

“Well I can tell you that it’s not something like you may have seen on social media, things saying ‘done deal’, there’s absolutely no truth in that.

“I know his family quite closely down here in Ayrshire, and trust me, they’d be keen to tell us if that was the case.

“He’ll return to Chelsea after his loan with Norwich City and if Thomas Tuchel can’t offer him more game time the likelihood is he will head out permanently.

“He doesn’t really want to do another loan if he’s got no chance of making it at Chelsea.

“I think the fee would be prohibitive for Rangers if we were going to go in for him and that’s over and above whether the player wanted to come back to Scotland or wanted to stay in the EPL where he does have offers.”

Rangers media partners quash Billy Gilmour return talk

Billy Gilmour is one of the most highly-rated young midfielders in world football and an important part of the Scotland national team.

As David Edgar explains, it’s time for the kid to get some continuity so Billy can reach his potential and this summer poses an interesting one for him.

Whilst we don’t expect the links to Rangers to stop, whether Billy Gilmour is 20 or 30 years old, perhaps now isn’t the time for a seemingly inevitable return to Ibrox.

But whilst a move for Billy Gilmour seems fanciful, Rangers have once again been linked to another major talent south of the border.
