Hammarby value defender Nathaniel Adjei up to £4m as Rangers are set a fee for the Ghanaian centre-back.
Voetbal Krant are claiming that Nathaniel Adjei might also be of interest to Belgian Pro League side Anderlecht, who are in the hunt for a new centre-back.
The report notes that the price tag, which sits between £3m and £4m, is also too high for Belgian rivals Standard Liege, who are now out of the running.
Namedropping Rangers as one of the Nathaniel Adjei suitors, Voetbal Krant list Celtic, Leeds United, Sunderland, Queens Park Rangers, Middlesbrough, Preston North End, and Bologna as interested parties.
Nathaniel Adjei could cost Rangers £4m
Whilst previous reports have suggested a deal could reach £3.5m, this is the first time we’ve been warned Hammarby want up to £4m for Nathaniel Adjei.
This would represent a sizeable outlay for Rangers and as such there would have to be a solid belief that the 21-year-old centre-back would be a success.
Nathaniel Adjei has been on impressive form with Hammarby in Sweden but that’s no guarantee he can transfer it across to the rigours of Scottish football.
The Ghanaian centre-half knows that his next move is a very important one and let’s see if Philippe Clement fancies taking the plunge.
At present, both Rangers and Celtic are said to be behind English Championship side Preston North End in the hunt.
Do Rangers need a new centre-back?
Heading into Philippe Clement’s first window in charge of Rangers, fans might be asking themselves if the Ibrox club needs a new centre-back.
Whilst the towering Nathaniel Adjei represents an exciting, young link, there are other areas of the squad, namely on the wings, which perhaps require greater attention.
Nonetheless, centre-back is a position of some uncertainty in Glasgow and even this season, despite having five first-team options, there have been issues.
Stalwart centre-back Connor Goldson continues to prove a relentless figure for the club, whilst John Souttar, Ben Davies and Leon Balogun have all deputised in the event of each other’s absences.

Teenage centre-back Leon King, who was in action with the Scotland U21s this week, has yet to be seen this season.
Nathaniel Adjei certainly fits the bill for the type of player Rangers should be signing but given the club do have centre-back options perhaps a move would need to wait until summer.
