Michael Stewart isn’t exactly famed for his positive media contributions when it comes to Rangers.

The ex-Hearts, Hibs and Manchester United midfielder had an unsuccessful trial at Ibrox back in 2004 prior to moving into the media industry.

Michael Stewart certainly has plenty to say when it comes to all things Scottish football and the pundit has been speaking about the progress of one high-profile summer Rangers target this week.

And Stewart has indirectly warned Rangers that they will need to break the Scottish transfer record if they’re serious about signing the player.

Michael Stewart: Lennon Miller worth £5m

Motherwell kid Lennon Miller is the talk of the Scottish footballing steamie and continues to make headlines in the nation’s Premiership division.

Tasked with adding more goals and assists to his game this season, the 18-year-old has now played 50 games for Motherwell and is the envy of young players up and down the country.

Rangers reportedly watched Miller in the summer and the midfielder continues to be one of the country’s premier young players with a bright future ahead of him.

But with Motherwell determined to hold onto the kid, the sharks are already swirling.

Speaking about the valuation of Lennon Miller, Michael Stewart reckons that Motherwell can expect to bank up to £5m for their prime young talent.

That would be £600k more than the record-breaking £4.4m Celtic paid Hibs to sign Scott Brown in 2007.

“The football market is like, to coin a phrase,” Stewart told Premier Sports. “You could have a mansion on a certain house and it has a ceiling price.

’You put that mansion on another street and it has a far greater value.

“And it’s the same in football.

“Lennon Miller is a quality player. At Motherwell, there is a ceiling price in terms of what would be paid.

“In a couple years time, say he was playing in a different country or a different league, that value is going to be through the roof.

“When I say £5m, I genuinely think that Motherwell could get between £3m – £5m for him.”

Ex-Rangers star agrees with ‘sky the limit’

Former Rangers defender Alan Hutton knows all about big transfer fees having banked the Gers a veritable fortune when he moved to Spurs in 2008.

Rangers banked in the region of £9m when Hutts moved down south and the ex-Ibrox right-back has also been speaking about Lennon Miller.

Agreeing with all the things Michael Stewart had to say, Hutton believes the ‘sky’s the limit’ for one of Scottish football’s brightest talents.

“I reckon (£5m) is probably about right,’ Hutton responded. “But the future that the boy’s got it could go well above that, in my opinion.

“If he continues to grow the way that he is, only 18 is it? The sky’s the limit.

“I think he’s about right. If he’s to leave and Motherwell are to get good money for him and he’s to move on, I think he would kick on again.

“With different players round about him I think the world’s his oyster.”

Lennon Miller has made 13 appearances for Motherwell this season, scoring four goals and laying on three assists.
