A transfer news update from Rangers boss Michael Beale has appeared to cool the suggestion that the Ibrox side are targeting four additional new players as thing stand.

Speaking to RangersTV as the club returns to pre-season training, Beale was beaming about the work already done in the transfer market with five names having joined the club already at the time of writing.

Kieran Dowell, Dujon Sterling, Jack Butland, Sam Lammers and Abdallah Sima have already joined up with their new teammates and are hard at work at the club’s training centre ahead of the new season.

But when asked about potential incomings the Rangers manager pointed to “two or three” new signings on top of the quintet who’ve already arrived.

When asked for an update on the latest transfer news coming out of Rangers, Michael Beale gave the following update:

“Everyone felt we wanted new faces and freshness and we’ve got that.

“I’m pleased to say it won’t stop there – there’s maybe two or three more that we’re also looking to recruit over the summer.

“It has been a really busy summer. The recruitment team and the football board have been working really hard on bringing some new players in and finalising things.”

Michael Beale talks latest Rangers transfer news

Whether or not Michael Beale is using an expression in this Rangers transfer news update you will have to deduce yourself but if the boss was being literal, then it poses an interesting situation for the four names strongly linked.

Rangers are said to be closing in on a move for Cremonese striker Cyriel Dessers – not yet announced at the time of writing – who is expected to join in a substantial deal worth in the region of £5m.

There are also strong links to Ecuadorean midfielder Jose Cifuentes and Nottingham Forest defender Jonathan Panzo, as Michael Beale strengthens those areas of the squad.

Feyenoord striker Danilo is also believed to be a target for the club and – given Michael Beale’s update here – he may well be the name that isn’t included in this initial “two or three”.

There have been conflicting reports surrounding the Danilo situation, with some claiming a second bid is imminent and others claiming there is no rush, as Rangers get ready to ship out some players.

Whilst the club’s squad is beginning to take shape this summer, there are several players touted for an exit and perhaps only after Rangers trim the fat will they reinvest in beefing out the side.
