Gary McAllister has hinted that Amiens midfielder Bongani Zungu is on Rangers’ radar but is just one of many potential transfer targets, as quoted by the Glasgow Times.
The Gers have been linked with a move for Zungu for some time and earlier this week it was reported that the two clubs are close to agreeing a deal in the region of £3.8 million [The Scotsman]

Zungu, who has 29 senior international caps for South Africa, is in the last year of his contract with Amiens, who will play in Ligue 2 next season following their recent relegation from the French top flight.
“We know who Zungu is but our recruitment in bringing players to the club is ongoing,” said McAllister, as quoted by the Glasgow Times.
“We’ve been speaking about hordes of players since lockdown.
“We are constantly on the lookout for players who can come into our team and make it better.”

Verdict
It’s relatively rare for the manager or a member of the coaching staff to acknowledge interest in a particular player who is still under contract at another club, but McAllister’s admission adds some extra substance to the rumours and reports.
He stops short of suggesting a deal is close but while the Gers would doubtless like to get deals done sooner rather than later, the news that the transfer window will remain open until October means there’s less pressure than usual at this stage of the summer.
Steven Gerrard has a lot of central midfielders to choose from with Ryan Jack, Steven Davis, Glen Kamara, Scott Arfield, Joe Aribo, Greg Docherty, Jamie Barjonas and Ross McCrorie all on the books, but more dynamism is required and it seems that, at the very least, a move for Zungu is under consideration.
