Rangers are closing in on a £3.5m (€4m) deal for South African international midfielder Bongani Zungu, according to a report in the Scotsman.
The Bafana Bafana midfielder has been routinely linked to Rangers over the last few weeks with France Football reporting Rangers were mounting a €2-3m deal back in June.
However, journalist Joe Crann suggested current club Amiens of Ligue 1 wanted closer to €5m for the player.
The Scotsman story is actually written by Joe Crann and follows up his earlier claims that Steven Gerrard was determined to sign the midfielder.
According to Crann, Rangers are closing in on the deal which could see the Ibrox side spend £3.5m (€4m) on the 27-cap South African international.
The report claims that talks are still ongoing between the clubs but that Rangers are close to striking a deal with Amiens as things stand.
Crann claims the former Mamelodi Sundowns man is “eager” to make the move happen to play in the Europa League and under Steven Gerrard at Ibrox.
What’s more, Zungu actually follows the journalist on Twitter.
A defensive midfielder who is athletic, good on the ball and who chips in with the odd goal, Zungu will be hoping to take his game to the next level at Ibrox as the club chase Scottish Premiership glory.

Zungu’s agent has also told South African media that a move away from Ligue 1 Amiens was a “big possibility”.
“The official position is that he only has one year left on his contract with Amiens,” said Alexis Ramalingam [Kick Off].
“So for now, they are going down to the second division, there is a big chance that Bongani will be leaving but we can’t comment about any interested clubs until the move is done because every club asks for discretion.
“There’s a big possibility that he leaves France this summer but we can’t comment about any clubs for now in order to respect the clubs we are in talks with.

“There’s interest in Ligue 1 and in other parts of Europe but I just can’t reveal where for now.”
Zungu, 27, has also played for Portuguese side Vitoria Guimaraes and has made 57 appearances for Amiens since joining them in 2017 [Transfermarkt].
