Millwall manager Gary Rowett has suggested that the Lions could sell versatile Rangers-linked star Jed Wallace this month [South London Press].
Back in September, Football League World reported that Rangers were one of a number of clubs monitoring Wallace, with his contract up at the end of the season.
Later that month, the same outlet suggested that the Gers and rivals Celtic had the advantage in the race to snap up the 27-year-old on a pre-contract.
The exit talk didn’t unsettle him, as he scored five goals and notched six assists in 22 Championship appearances before picking up a quad injury in December.
Millwall manager gives update on Rangers-linked star
His future remains unresolved, though, and now that the January transfer window has arrived and he’s still yet to sign a new deal, speculation is mounting once again.
Nottingham Forest, Leeds United and Watford are amongst the clubs to be credited with interest recently [The News Portsmouth] and it was reported earlier this week that Millwall have already rejected two ‘derisory’ offers.
When asked on Thursday about Wallace’s situation, Lions boss Rowett said:
“We’re in a situation where we would love Jed to stay and sign a new contract but he is out of contract at the end of the season.”
“We have to be open-minded to all scenarios. What we don’t want to do is lose one of our best players over the past four or five seasons for nothing.”
Wallace could be on the move
It sounds like as far as Millwall are concerned, something has to give this month.
Either Wallace signs an extension or they will look to cash in on a player who’s been a mainstay in the side since signing from Wolves in 2017.
Rangers will face plenty of competition if they are genuinely interested, with even Turkish giants Besiktas linked with serious interest earlier this week [South London Press].
If the Gers were able to lure him to Ibrox, though, he’d be a good addition to an already strong squad.
Wallace can play a number of positions, including out wide, as an attacking midfielder or as a second striker, and he has produced over 80 direct goal contributions during his time at the Den.
