England international Trippier is currently at Atletico Madrid and it’s asserted that with the Spanish giants holding out for a price that’s higher than United are currently willing to pay, the Gers skipper is now on their radar as a potentially cheaper option.

The same report claims that fellow Premier League clubs Arsenal, Brighton and Norwich City are also keen.

The 29-year-old made two English top-flight appearances whilst at Newcastle United at the beginning of his career but it’s at Ibrox that he’s really made a name for himself.

He posted incredible numbers last season, scoring 19 goals and notching 16 assists as well as contributing to a plethora of clean sheets, leading the Light Blues to the Premiership title and deep into the Europa League.

Fans of Premier League clubs often turn their noses up at Scottish football and downplay the achievements of the players playing there.

However, that doesn’t seem to be the case here, with many United fans actually excited by the links.

Impressed by the right-back’s success at Ibrox, they’re hopeful that the Red Devils will swoop in this window.

Here’s a selection of reactions from Twitter:

If a big club like United were to come knocking, Rangers would surely demand a very substantial fee, given Tavernier’s importance to the team and the fact that he’s contracted until 2024.
