Man City loanee James McAtee shows Rangers what they’re missing with a stunning goal for Sheffield Utd against Sunderland in the English Championship.
The 20-year-old English talent was extensively linked with a move to Rangers in January 2022, whilst the links also reappeared over the summer.

But James McAtee would instead move to Sheffield Utd on loan and since then the kid has been making quite the impression at Bramall Lane, as his latest goal would suggest.
The England youth international showed excellent composure to take the ball under control whilst driving into the Black Cats’ penalty box before adjusting his body to neatly roll the ball home.
It’s the kid’s fifth Championship goal from midfield this season.
The James McAtee goal was an important one too, with the midfielder netting on the cusp of halftime to bring the Blades level after Sunderland had gone ahead through PSG loanee Edouard Michut.
And the Black Cats would struggle to recover with Tommy Doyle netting the eventual winner in the second half in a 2-1 Sheffield Utd win.
James McAtee goal shows Rangers what they might’ve had
Rangers fans will remember the links with James McAtee last winter and in the summer after what have proved to be two pretty disastrous transfer windows for the club.
Perhaps McAtee might’ve proved a difference maker for the side in the second half of last season, as Rangers meekly surrendered the title to Celtic in a dispiriting domestic campaign.
This summer too Rangers were resoundingly criticised for not adding enough quality to the ranks of the squad, with those complaints ringing out still as the club toil in the Premiership after being laughed out of Europe.
This summer represents a pivotal one for Rangers as they look to regain their grip on Scottish football and with pressure on the likes of Ross Wilson, it’s yet another window of rebuilding.
As James McAtee showed with this fine goal, there is quality in the loan market south of the border as the midfielder shows Rangers what they’re missing.
Meanwhile, Jerry Yates has ended his Championship scoring duck.
