Rangers-linked Blackpool striker Jerry Yates opens the scoring as Blackpool heap the post-Michael Beale misery on to QPR.

The Seasiders romped to a comprehensive 6-1 victory over the Rs in Blackpool, with Jerry Yates ending a remarkable 18 game Championship run without a goal in the match.

Andy Lions would score a double in the game, with Curtis Nelson, Jordan Thorniley and Kenny Dougall also netting for Blackpool and Chris Martin scoring what proved to be a consolation for QPR.

Rangers-linked Jerry Yates back amongst the goals

Rangers fans will remember links to Jerry Yates earlier in the season, with the striker on red hot form and reports at the time suggesting the Ibrox side could reignite earlier interest in the forward.

With the player rated at £5m, Jerry Yates had scored nine goals in his first 17 Championship games of the season but he will have been hugely relieved to break the duck with his tenth goal of the campaign from the penalty spot.

The result is a quite remarkable one for both QPR and Blackpool, with the Loftus Road club going from the top of the Championship under Michael Beale in October to relegation fears in March.

Blackpool have eye on QPR in Championship

Having sacked Neil Critchley from the job, Gareth Ainsworth has been unable to arrest the worrying slide despite ending the QPR’s baron run with victory over Watford at the weekend.

This was the club’s first win in 14 games and only their second in 21, with the defeat to Blackpool meaning QPR are now seven points off the relegation zone in the English Championship.

Whilst the slide began before Michael Beale controversially moved to Rangers – the then QPR boss reiterating his commitment to the club amid links to Wolves – the decline has been staggering.

Rangers boss Michael Beale was without a win in six games prior to his exit and the club have been unable to reverse the trend as they stare at the very real prospect of a relegation battle.

Conversely, it is Blackpool and Jerry Yates who have QPR in their sights, with the Bloomfield Road club occupying the final relegation spot in the Championship table.

Meanwhile, here’s why Erling Haaland has been soothing the pain of Rangers fans.
