The latest Malik Tillman injury blow comes with Rangers fans largely undecided on whether or not the club should splash out to bring the Bayern loanee to Ibrox permanently.

The USA international midfielder went off just 36 minutes into the painful 1-0 Hampden Scottish Cup defeat against Celtic with a hamstring problem.

You could immediately hear the grumble of Rangers fans who, despite Malik Tillman being visibly upset with the substitution, were frustrated with what was a needless tackle causing the issue.

The young American continues to be needlessly naive in matches against Celtic and with the club failing to find the back of the net in this Old Firm clash how badly Rangers needed Malik Tillman in the game.

A matchwinner who has netted 12 times this season, the Bayern loanee has been a rare spark in a season devoid of them but there remains doubts a over a full-time move.

Rangers doubts over Malik Tillman after injury blow

Rangers will reportedly have to pay £5m to sign Malik Tillman permanently but after a season of disappointment you can see why fans are not sure.

Whilst Tillman has delivered across the season this has not been enough to halt another Celtic treble and Rangers fans need guaranteed results with such a substantial outlay in Scotland.

This means that fans are considering if the club would be better served spending the money elsewhere as they try to grab the title back from Celtic and it is a legitimate argument.

Whilst Malik Tillman is a player of undoubted talent, Rangers need the kid to be a guaranteed matchwinner in these sorts of games and so far the USA international has only ever been found wanting.

Now, with an injury likely to rule him out of the rest of the campaign, Rangers fans won’t get the chance to run the rule over Malik Tillman in the series of dead-rubbers ahead.

The clash at Hampden might also prove the last game the 20-year-old ever plays for the club.
