Liverpool transfer news might turn Rangers heads with Portugual talent up for grabs

Fabrizio Romano claims Liverpool will allow Fabio Carvalho on loan this January – just days on from when Rangers signed Premier League countryman Fabio Silva.

Rangers are on the hunt for transfer reinforcements as Philippe Clement looks to mount a successful title charge in the second half of the campaign.

The club’s January transfer business started early last week when Rangers announced the signing of £35m Wolves attacker Fabio Silva on a short-term deal.

Once amongst the most talented young players in Europe – as comparisons with Cristiano Ronaldo testify – Rangers have just signed a player of immense potential who has lost his way in recent seasons.

Similarly, as the club look to both bolster their frontline and soften the blow of AFCON-bound Abdallah Sima, Fabio Carvalho might pose a very interesting option.

Fabio Carvalho to leave Liverpool?

According to a Fabrizio Romano exclusive, Liverpool are set to let Fabio Carvalho leave the club this January after a brief stint with RB Leipzig.

The winger made 15 appearances for the Bundesliga side in the first half of the season, but only three were from the start.

Whilst it’s important we stress that Rangers have not been officially linked to the player as things stand, it’s exactly the kind of signing the club have sought to make in recent seasons.

Like Malik Tillman, Abdallah Sima, and Fabio Silva before him, Fabio Carvalho is a young talent who needs an opportunity to take the next step in his game.

For that reason, we would be very surprised if this news hasn’t reached Philippe Clement and Nils Koppen.

According to Romano, the 21-year-old winger wants more game-time and with Rangers decidedly short in the wide areas, minutes would likely be forthcoming at Ibrox.

Liverpool paid an initial £5m to sign Carvalho in 2022 after a storming breakthrough season with Fulham in the English Championship.

Rangers ready to do transfer business

Whilst it hasn’t quite happened for the attacker at Liverpool since, the task for Fabio is to go out on a temporary switch and give Jurgen Klopp something to think about.

Rangers would likely face stiff competition for the winger, with Premier League hopefuls Southampton named as potential suitors in the report.

But with the Ibrox side already attracting a big name in Fabio Silva north of the border this summer, perhaps fellow Portugal U21 international Carvalho might look at a switch.

It all depends on what Philippe Clement wants to do with his squad this summer with the Rangers manager previously suggesting he knows what he wants this January.

A wide attacker is believed to be on the club’s wishlist, with Rangers also reportedly leading the hunt for one young Dutch winger plying his trade in the Eredivisie.

The Gers have also been linked to a couple of left-backs, whilst the striker position remains an area of substantial concern.
