French top-flight side Lille have officially announced the signing of Jonathan David amid the club’s reported interest in Rangers striker Alfredo Morelos.

Lille sold Victor Osimhen to Napoli earlier in the transfer window and have moved quickly to re-strengthen their attack.

Sky Sports reported that Gers striker Morelos agreed personal terms ahead of a prospective move, but the two clubs couldn’t agree on a fee.

Since then, Lille have brought in veteran marksman Burak Yilmaz and now David.

The 20-year-old Canada international scored 23 goals and registered 10 assists in 40 appearances for Gent last season and joins for a reported €30 million [Goal.com] on a five-year contract.

It now seems unlikely that Lille would splash out further on Morelos, given the striking options in their squad.

Indeed, the Daily Record claimed earlier this week that any deal for David would effectively kill off Lille’s interest in El Bufalo.

Now, L’Equipe reports via Get Football News France that the Ligue 1 side club will only come back in for Morelos if they opt to sell one of their current attacking options, such as Jonathan Ikone.

The French international wore the number 10 shirt for Lille last season and made 36 appearances in all competitions, scoring four goals and registering seven assists.

Several other clubs are said to be interested in Morelos, but this latest development suggests he’ll be staying at Ibrox for a while yet.

Following a poor run of form, the Colombian international looked more like his old self at the weekend, netting twice in a 3-0 victory over St Mirren and he is likely to lead the line again when the Gers take on St Johnstone at Ibrox on Wednesday night.

Ahead of the match, two senior players have been ruled out through injury.
