Lille will not go beyond their £16m+ bid for Rangers striker Alfredo Morelos as the Ligue 1 side officially drop their interest, according to a Scottish report.

The Daily Record is claiming that Les Dogues have dropped their interest in the Rangers powerhouse with Lille set to complete a £27m move for Gent’s Canadian forward Jonathan David [L’Equipe]

The Scottish paper claims that sources close to the player in South America have claimed that the move is now all but dead with Morelos said to be “completely focused” on Rangers.

Jonathan David’s transfer to Lille would also come at a time when the club has been punished by UEFA for Financial Fair Play breaches.

Lille must post a positive net transfer spend in order to register new players for European competition with their finances dramatically impacted by the order.

But high-profile transfer deals such as those involving striker Victor Osimhen, who has moved to Napoli for a reported £63m, has allowed the French side to open the chequebook.

However, Rangers’ valuation of Morelos is said to be too high for Lille to stretch amid their financial limitations.

The Ibrox side was said to have rejected a £16.25m bid for Morelos from Lille with Rangers holding out for closer to £20m for the player [Daily Mail].

If this Daily Record report is true, it would suggest that Alfredo Morelos will be at Rangers at least until someone meets the club’s transfer valuation of the striker.

The Colombian international was applauded by the Rangers support for answering his critics and breaking his scoring duck with a double against St. Mirren in weekend’s 3-0 win at Ibrox.
