Leicester City are closing in on a move for Wolves centre-back Connor Coady amid some very loose links to Rangers via Instagram earlier in the summer.
According to the Daily Mail, Championship side Leicester are hopeful of completing a £4.5m deal for the 30-year-old defender, who spent last season on loan at Everton in the Premier League, despite having an offer turned down.
The move comes amid reported interest from Nottingham Forest, who play in the English top flight, with another potential Rangers angle in the Ibrox side’s pursuit of Jonathan Panzo.
If Forest had signed a deal for England international Connor Coady perhaps it would’ve boosted Rangers’ position with Panzo, the latest suggesting the Ibrox club’s valuation of the player is below that of those at the City Ground.
Connor Coady will not be moving to Rangers
Connor Coady too has been linked to Rangers recently, but only through an Instagram post where the defender appeared to show his Ibrox allegiances by sharing a photo of his kids on the platform.
One of the defender’s boys was pictured wearing a full Rangers kit and after Everton had knocked back an option-to-buy on the player it had send plenty tongues wagging.
However, as things have transpired, Coady now looks set to move down the EFL pyramid to Leicester City, who’ve just appointed Italian coach Enzo Maresca after their Premier League relegation.
The man who steered them from European hopefuls to relegation fodder was the one and only Brendan Rodgers, now of course back at Celtic ahead of next season.
Rangers will be hoping Michael Beale can heap the pressure on Brendan Rodgers next season, who has taken a sizeable risk by coming back to Celtic at this juncture.
With the Parkhead side off the back of a treble, and Rangers clearly on the up and in the midst of a busy summer, things are unlikely to be so rosy next season.
But as Rangers try to wrestle back some trophies, Connor Coady will likely not be on board to help them, even if does appear to have a soft spot for the Gers.
