Rangers and Leeds United are now set to have a common ownership as the 49ers Enterprises group prepares to takeover at Ibrox.
49ers Enterprises have already taken over at Leeds United, acquiring the club fully last summer and trying to steer it towards financial sustainability.
San Francisco 49ers CEO Jed York wouldn’t touch on the Rangers takeover, insisting that 49ers Enterprises is very much separate from the NFL franchise.
In the same vein, Paraag Marathe suggested Rangers won’t be Leeds United’s feeder club with the two football clubs in the 49ers franchise to be kept arm’s length apart.
But as the Rangers takeover waits to go through, perhaps Rangers will be cheering Leeds on in their hunt for Premier League promotion at the top of the English Championship.
And not just because of the bounty that lies in wait for the cash-strapped club and by proxy the 49ers if the Whites can make it out of the English second tier.

Rangers target Israeli striker Dor Turgeman
Rangers have been strongly linked with a move for Israeli striker Dor Turgeman ahead of the summer transfer window.
Reports have suggested Rangers watched Turgeman score his first goal for Israel in a 4-2 World Cup qualifying defeat during the last international break.
These links then begun to intensify amid reports Rangers could have to pay £5m for Turgeman this summer, the Maccabi Tel Aviv striker netting 17 goals already this season.
Rangers News have learned that Turgeman is open to a move to Rangers provided the club is ok with the idea of the 21-year-old using them as a stepping stone.
But whilst it would be the 49ers – and US healthcare mogul Andrew Cavenagh – bankrolling any move for Turgeman, that’s not where Leeds United come in.
Leeds United can help knock out Rangers competition
Leeds United are currently locked in an enthralling three-team race for English Championship glory and Premier League promotion.
The Elland Road outfit are currently second in the English second tier table with seven games to go, two points off current leaders Sheffield United.
But to add an extra dimension to the entire situation, Burnley are also in the hunt, level on points with Leeds United but 3rd courtesy of an inferior goal difference.

It’s that goal difference that Burnley will be trying to amend this summer, with reports suggesting Rangers weren’t the only ones watching Dor Turgeman in action.
Burnley are also Turgeman suitors and Rangers will be watching how this season ends for the Clarets very closely.
Whilst a 3rd place finish would place Burnley into the playoff, these are a notoriously challenging set of high pressure matches amongst closely matched teams.
If Leeds United and Sheffield United can pip Burnley to the two automatic promotion spots, Rangers could be handed a boost in their hopes of signing Dor Turgeman permanently.
If Burnley reach the Premier League land of milk and honey, then they would boast the spending power and prestige to pip Rangers to the Israeli’s signature.
