Premiership star told he is the ‘perfect fit’ for Rangers under Clement

One Rangers-linked striker is the perfect fit for Philippe Clement’s style of play at Ibrox.

That’s according to pundit Jim Duffy, who believes the Belgian’s adopted 4-2-3-1 formation is ready-made for Lawrence Shankland to seamlessly mould himself into.

The Hearts man will continue to be linked with the Govan giants for as long as the January transfer window is open, with almost every pundit under the sun touting him for a switch across the M8.

We at Rangers News rated it pretty likely that Shankland will end up at Rangers this month but at the moment, it remains to be seen.

With the 28-year-old’s contract running down in 2025, Hearts may be tempted to cash in depending on how Rangers test the waters, if indeed they do at all.

The Scotland forward is reportedly keen on the move and now, PLZ Soccer pundit Duffy thinks the transfer would make sense across the board, but particularly from a tactical point of view.

Shankland ‘perfect’ for Rangers

The former Hibs and Dundee manager believes the likes of Todd Cantwell and loan capture from Wolves Fabio Silva could be fantastic foils for Shankland, who tends to shine with a supporting attacker alongside him.

Duffy thinks that style could work under Clement at Rangers, saying: “I actually think he’s the perfect fit for Rangers because of the way Philippe Clement plays. He likes to play a 4-2-3-1 with a supporting player.

“I don’t think Lawrence Shankland is a lone striker. He can do it but I think you need players round about him, whether that’s a number 10 or wide players supporting.

“I think when he’s played with Liam Boyce when he’s fit or Josh Ginnelly when he was at Hearts that’s when he’s thrived and played at his very best. It distracts away defenders and he’s clever enough to find the space that those players create for him.

“The way Clement plays, whether it’s Cantwell or Fabio Silva, that type of player would be a perfect complement for Shankland.

“So I think he fits the mould and more importantly he’s a proven goalscorer and knows the Scottish game. He’s done it at Dundee United and Hearts, Ayr United at a lower level. His goal record in Scotland is outstanding.”
