La Liga outfit Villarreal have reportedly submitted an £8.5m (€10m) offer for reported Rangers target Haji Wright amid reports of an Ibrox bid for the striker.

That is according to Turkish football journalist Ertan Suzgun, who tweeted the claim to his 225k followers amid reports Rangers have had a £7m bid turned down for the striker.

However, the journalist has also claimed that Haji Wright’s current employers Antalyaspor have turned down Villarreal’s offer for the in-demand striker.

If that is the case, then it’s clear that Rangers will have to stump up if they are serious about signing the 25-year-old forward who has netted 16 times in total for the Super Lig side this season.

Wright is one of several strikers now being linked to Rangers, as the club look to replace the influence of outgoing Colombian international Alfredo Morelos.

There are also major doubts surrounding both Antonio Colak – who has been linked with an exit – and Kemar Roofe – who has struggled with fitness consistently – and their ability to step up to the plate at Ibrox.

Rangers manager Michael Beale has suggested that the club might have to stump up to sign a quality replacement for Morelos ahead of what promises to be a busy summer.

“I’ve been thinking about it [who will replace Alfredo Morelos] since November,” said Beale ahead of the final game of the season against Hearts at Ibrox.

“So I’ve had a lot of time to think and ponder, 27 games as well. You look at your team and you think maybe ‘what is missing, where do we need to go now, what type of energy, what type of striker will help us?’

“Good strikers cost quite a bit of money, so we’re away and very much down the line with some of our thinking on that.”

Wright may well be of interest to Rangers, but the latest suggests that the club will face stiff competition from the likes of Villarreal this summer.
