Two Premier League clubs have been named as potential suitors for Peterborough winger Kwame Poku after he was watched by Rangers scouts.

Rangers News exclusively revealed this week that watching Rangers talent spotters saw Kwame Poku lash in a hat-trick for the Posh in the weekend’s 6-1 derby demolition of Cambridge United.

But it was made clear that Rangers are not the only ones with an eye on the out-of-contract attacker, with Premier League and Championship clubs also keen on the player.

Now, four of those would-be Kwame Poku transfer suitors have been named as Rangers hope to tempt the 23-year-old north and take advantage of cross-border compensation rules.

Kwame Poku wanted in Premier League

Kwame Poku looks set to be a man in demand this January as his contract ticks down at Peterborough in English League One.

Whilst the Posh are determined to keep a hold of the talented winger, Poku is out of contract with clubs from the Championship and Premier League keeping tabs on the situation.

Now, the Boot Room and Graeme Bailey have revealed two of Poku’s would-be suitors from the cash-rich English top flight.

These are newly promoted pair Ipswich Town and Southampton, who are certainly enduring complicated seasons in the Premier League so far.

Both sides are hoping to stave off relegation and Kwame Poku is said to be on their radar as he continues to impress with Peterborough United.

Alongside the Tractor Boys and the Saints, the report also claims that Championship duo Burnley and Millwall are interested in a deal for Poku as his contract ticks down at London Road.

Rangers target transfer loophole with ‘unplayable’ winger

Rangers fans will hope to take advantage of cross-border compensation rules to nip in front in the Kwame Poku transfer race.

English sides would have to agree a development fee with Peterborough – who have had a solid record of producing young talents – or risk any transfer going to tribunal.

But the same rules do not apply for players moving across borders, meaning Rangers could sign Poku on a similar deal to those which brought Calvin Bassey and Joe Aribo to the club.

Remarkably, Poku’s form this season has seen him ranked level with Chelsea star Cole Palmer as the fifth most productive player across England’s four divisions.

The winger was also branded ‘unplayable’ by Peterborough manager Darren Ferguson, who confirmed the Posh have offered the attacker a new contract.

“Kwame is just unplayable at the moment,” said Ferguson. “I would hate to play against him.

“He needs to give someone else a chance of winning player of the month. They’ll have to rename it the Kwame Poku Trophy!

“The boy is unplayable at the moment, he’s just so good. He deserves all the plaudits and all the credit.

“That’s why we had to keep him in the summer. There were offers for him and there will be more offers for him.

“We’re trying to keep him and have offered him a new contract. Me and the chairman are trying our best, but it will be very tough and you can see why.

“If you watch him, the stats don’t lie. I’m just enjoying working with the boy. He will admit though that it wasn’t just about him yesterday as it was a very good team performance.”
