Kevin Nisbet should be a Rangers target and here is why

Kevin Nisbet is leaving Hibernian, that much we know this summer, and Rangers have to be interested.

A £2.2m deal fell through in January now, Milwall have returned with a £1.2m offer that has also been accepted.

At that price Kevin Nisbet is an absolute steal for Rangers given modern prices for strikers.

For perspective, Sunderland were looking for £10m for Ross Stewart last summer and I know who I’d rather have.

Five reasons why Kevin Nisbet should be a Rangers target

Goals

The first one is obvious.

Even considering injury, Kevin Nisbet has managed 51 goal contributions in 101 games for Hibs, including goals against Rangers and Celtic.

As a rotational option, he gets into double figures for Rangers.

The Fee

What does £1.2m buy you nowadays in terms of strikers?

Not very much is the short answer.

With it  looking like Michael Beale has saved an early fortune, there should be more than enough in the kitty for a consistent striker at this sort of price.

The Wages

Kevin Nisbet is, reportedly, only on £1,000 per week, a deal signed when he moved from lower league football.

He won’t be demanding anywhere near the sort of wage that Alfredo Morelos or any of our other strikers are on.

Michael Beale could improve his firepower and reduce the wage bill in one go.

Home Grown Status

Rangers need players developed in Scotland for the UEFA quota, losing Allan McGregor and Scott Arfeld does have an impact, if Scott Wright leaves, that would be another body down.

There aren’t a lot of quality players going about but Kevin Nisbet fits the bill perfectly for Rangers.

The Scotland Number Nine Jersey

It is easy for a player to disappear in the English Championship, however, if Kevin Nisbet is scoring goals for Rangers, Steve Clarke would have almost no choice but to make him his number nine.

Nobody has nailed it down and Kevin Nisbet would have a good chance to claim it if he was fit and in form.

It is common knowledge that the 26-year old is from a Celtic supporting family.

So too were Neil McCann and Mo Johnston, and they won’t have been the only ones.

Kevin Nisbet is good enough to be part of Rangers attack, I’d want better to be our main man but for £1.2m?

It’s a bargain we have to go for.
