The proposed deal to take Colombian striker Juan Alegria has now reached an “advanced stage” – despite claims the transfer was 90% done back in December 2020.
Rangers have been mentioned alongside FC Honka striker Alegria since last year with the Daily Record claiming back then that the Gers had been tailing the forward for 12 months.
Now the same newspaper is claiming that the transfer was held up due to the impact of Brexit and the change of the transfer window “made it difficult”.
However, the Record believe the deal is almost complete for the 19-year-old forward, who has spent the last year in Finland with Honka.
Potentially a development signing, any proposed move for Alegria would come after the Gers also added Charlie McCann to their ranks.
A teenage playmaker, 19, for whom the Gers have reportedly splashed out £750k [Manchester Evening News], Steven Gerrard admitted the player would be involved with the B team at first.
“It will be a B-team signing but as a management team if it happens we will follow him really closely and analyse where he’s at and once he’s ready for an opportunity it will certainly present itself,” said Gerrard of McCann [Rangers].
It is not clear if Rangers feel the same way regarding the Colombian striker but what is clear is that Rangers have sizeable competition in the final third.
Fashion Sakala has been brought in this summer whilst Kemar Roofe and Cedric Itten have one year in Glasgow under their belt.
Veteran striker Jermain Defoe has signed on for another year whilst – as things stand – Alegria’s countryman Alfredo Morelos remains a Rangers player.
According to one journalist, Alfie is also determined to stay at Ibrox meaning that Juan Alegria could have five forward options in front of him in the Gers squad.
