A leading Birmingham-based football journalist has claimed Aston Villa manager Steven Gerrard “loves” Rangers winger Ryan Kent as he discussed the Scouser’s transfer plans.

Birmingham Live did a Q&A regarding the upcoming window with Ryan Kent previously linked to the Premier League club following Gerrard’s exit from Ibrox.

But true to the form Steven Gerrard and his backroom staff showed at Rangers, there is little coming out when it comes to his first window in charge at Villa Park.

Rangers fans may have a right to feel a little nervous when it comes to Steven Gerrard pillaging his former squad for reinforcements, with £7m Ryan Kent the most substantial outlay of Stevie G’s Ibrox tenure.

But according to Birmingham journalist Ashley Preece, there’s nothing substantial surrounding any potential interest in Ryan Kent even if Steven Gerrard rates the winger.

Aston Villa boss Steven Gerrard “loves” Rangers winger Ryan Kent

“In terms of Ryan Kent, Gerrard loves him,” said Preece.

“We all know that given their success together at Ibrox. He was Rangers’ standout player and that’s going to be an obvious link. We’ll have to see with that one.

“Gerrard brought Kent on big-time at Rangers; spent a bit of money on him as well, £7million for a Liverpool academy product and believed in him and took him to a new level.

“Gerrard’s keeping his cards close to his chest at the moment and there’s nothing coming out in terms of agents speaking or anything with regards to Villa’s transfer plans for January.”

Ryan Kent first joined Rangers on loan from Liverpool when Steven Gerrard first moved to Ibrox in 2018 and the winger went on to with the PFA Young Player of the Year Award.

A £7m transfer to Ibrox followed the next summer and in his Ibrox career to date Ryan Kent has made 148 appearances for Rangers, scoring 29 goals and laying on 34 assists.
