Michael Beale said that there would be a connection with most of the players he targeted for Rangers which is why Jonson Clarke-Harris kept being linked.

The Peterborough United striker is in the last year of his contract at and 28-years old will be leaving for pastures new this summer.

Interest in the former Rangers target is said to be hotting up with clubs in MLS looking to take Jonson Clarke-Harris Stateside according to Darren Witcoop of The Mirror.

Why Rangers have moved on from Jonson Clarke-Harris

The striker has been prolific for the Leagye 1 outfit but his 29 goals last season weren’t enough to get Darren Ferguson’s side promoted back up to the Championship.

Stylistically, Rangers no longer seems to be a good fit for Jonson Clarke-Harris though with Cyriel Dessers and Sam Lammers offering more of an all-round option.

The same can be said of Danilo and, if Michael Beale wanted a pure goalscorer, he would have kept Antonio Colak.

The likeable Croatian has signed for Parma for a reported £2.5m after leaving Rangers and has significantly more experience at an elite level than Jonson Clarke-Harris.

A previous fee of £5m in January perfectly demonstrates why the Gers gaffer has looked abroad given the fees paid for Dessers and Lammers.

Unless they are into the last six-months of their contract, players in England are less and less likely to represent good value for money.

What Beale has done is look for players who have either proven that they can play at the level Rangers need to get to or have shown that they have the potential to.

Rangers would once have been a viable option for Jonson Clarke-Harris but, given his age and the direction Rangers are going in, the EFL – where he wants to stay – is the most likely destination.
