Back in January, Rangers links to Jack Wilshere took the UK by storm but the ex-England international is now without a club heading into the new season.

The Gers were extensively linked to Wilshere, 29, back in January after the player was released from West Ham United [TalkSPORT].

But as things transpired the former Arsenal star would move to Championship side Bournemouth where the Cherries failed to make it out of the English second tier.

Wilshere would then leave the Vitality Stadium after Bournemouth’s playoff failure and remains without a club heading into the new campaign.

The midfielder – who was once rated as amongst the brightest talents in global football during his time with the Gunners – would then admit this week he’s still waiting for the “right opportunity” this summer.

However, Wilshere would disappointingly reveal that at present, there is “nothing happening” in this regard.

“I’ve actually had a good pre-season. I’ve been training with a club just to keep myself fit. I’m in a good place, physically. I’m 29,” said Wilshere [TalkSPORT].

“I’m waiting for the right opportunity to come up, to be honest.

“But, having said that, nothing has come up at the minute and there’s nothing happening. I don’t know the answer to that question to be honest.

“I’m just waiting. I don’t really know how long I can wait, I don’t really want to wait as long as I did last time when I left West Ham in the summer, and then I didn’t get a club until January when I went to Bournemouth.

“I don’t really want to wait that long [again]. So, hopefully, something will happen sooner rather than later.”

It’s been a difficult few years for Wilshere and whilst the player hasn’t signed on at Ibrox, there’s no reason why Rangers fans won’t wish the player all the best in the season to come.

Whilst there were plenty of links between Ibrox and Wilshere, the player himself made a revealing admission regarding the paper talk after he moved to Bournemouth.
