Manchester United goalkeeper Jack Butland was asked about a potential move to Rangers by a fan as Michael Beale whets the appetite for another signing announcement.

In a clip doing the rounds on social media – which you can watch on Facebook – the former England international goalkeeper, 31, was signing autographs before he was asked “Are you going to Rangers?”

Initially startled by the question, Jack Butland responds “Sorry” as if he didn’t hear the fan before the supporter asks him again about a move to Rangers.

The Old Trafford back-up stopper – who is on loan from Crystal Palace – was then very coy in a short response in which he appears to say “Maybe”.

The clip has emerged following Man Utd’s 4-1 win Old Trafford win over Chelsea in the Premier League, with Jack Butland named as an unused substitute.

Is Jack Butland set for Rangers switch after fan poser?

Rangers have been extensively linked with a move for Butland as the club look to sign a new number one to replace the outgoing Allan McGregor.

Ibrox legend McGregor, 41, said goodbye to the club’s supporters following the 2-2 draw with Hearts, bringing the curtain down on a Hall of Fame worthy Rangers career.

Despite reports that Man Utd could scupper Rangers move for Butland, the latest surrounding the deal very much suggests a move could still be on the cards.

This comes with Butland’s Crystal Palace contract set to expire at the end of the season.

According to some reports, Butland has taken a wage-cut to move to Ibrox with Michael Beale whetting Rangers fans’ appetites by suggesting an announcement on a new goalie will take place imminently.

“We will announce a goalkeeper in the next 10 days or so I believe so it is pretty much done,” said Beale following the draw with the Jambos at Ibrox.

Rangers also have Scotland international stopper Jon McLaughlin on the books, while long-term Ibrox academy goalkeeper Robby McCrorie has impressed since coming into the side.
