Back in December, Sky Sports reported that Rangers were tracking Gillingham’s Tom Eaves ahead of this month’s transfer window.
Steven Gerrard had already admitted the club were in the market for a striker, and it seems that Eaves was on an initial shortlist.

However, is he still on Rangers’ radar?

Transfermarkt value the 6ft 5′ striker at a budget 90k, so a move certainly wouldn’t break the bank.
What’s more, his goal scoring record so far this season, is good. He’s averaged considerably better than a goal every other game in League One, with 14 in 24 appearances so far.
That isn’t a total flash in the pan, either. He managed 17 in the league last season.

However, after securing the signatures of Jermain Defoe and Steven Davis, this would seem like a considerable step down in calibre.
Eaves may be doing well just now, but he has had a journeyman like career. At just 26, Gillingham is his eight different club.
While Rangers’ newest forward is well travelled,
his destinations have been a lot more illustrious than Eaves’.

With the current roster of Morelos, Defoe, Lafferty and potentially Hardie, a move for the Gillingham man looks unnecessary at present.
However, it’s early days in the window and Rangers may not want to close any doors just yet, in case emergency cover is required.
