Only a few months ago did it seem like Ianis Hagi might never play for Rangers again.

Once one of Rangers’ most crucial players, a devastating cruciate ligament injury sustained in January 2022 interrupted Hagi’s career and has wreaked havoc ever since.

After a disappointing loan stint in Spain, Ianis Hagi was expected to leave Rangers this summer before being miraculously called back in from the cold in October.

Now Hagi is eyeing the Europa League Final with the Romanian ruled out of the club’s trip to Seville in 2022.

But with the Romanian international’s contract ticking down, the 26-year-old has bitten back against suggestions he’s asked to leave Ibrox this summer.

Ianis Hagi ‘asks to leave Rangers’ with move to Turkey mooted

Reports in Romania have suggested that Ianis Hagi has asked Rangers to leave Ibrox at the end of his current contract.

It comes after Hagi impressed against Athletic Club after being recalled to the Rangers starting XI for the eventual 0-0 Europa League quarter final draw at Ibrox.

Spot Media in Romania caused a stir in Scotland when local outlets picked up claims that Hagi’s agents have been instructed to find the attacking midfielder a new club.

It was suggested that it’s been accepted that Hagi is ‘in the final few months’ of his Rangers contract with the player primed to leave Ibrox in the summer.

With Galatasaray previously linked to Hagi, the outlet has Fenerbahce as potentially interested suitors when the ex-Genk star’s contract expires.

It’s claimed that Hagi – whose father Gheorghe is a legend at Galatasaray – has been offered to Jose Mourinho and his team.

Ianis Hagi has now dismissed these reports by taking to social media to brand them ‘fake news’.

The Romanian midfielder didn’t mess about as he took to X to dismiss suggestions that he is trying to orchestrate a move out of Rangers this summer.

It comes after Hagi refused to be drawn on his Rangers future back in March:

“Out of respect to everyone, the club and my agents have to talk about my future For me, right now, and this is really an honest answer, I don’t really think about the future.

“For me, it’s just about what I can do today and tomorrow to get ready for the game and from that point on what I can do to get ready for the next game and the one after that. I take it step by step.

“You guys probably know my agents so they will probably talk about my situation.”
