Rangers signed Docherty from Hamilton Academical in early 2018 for around £680,000 [The Times] and he was initially a regular in midfield under Graeme Murty.
He fell out of favour prior to the end of the season, though, and after the arrival of Steven Gerrard, his opportunities were limited.
Docherty made occasional appearances in friendlies and cup competitions but spent much of the next two seasons out on loan; first at Shrewsbury Town and more recently, with Hibernian.
The 23-year-old may not be as composed on the ball as the likes of Glen Kamara or Steven Davis but he offers work-rate, athleticism and a goal threat.
The midfielder took EFL League One by storm during the 2018/19 season, scoring seven times and registering eight assists on his way to Shrewsbury’s Player of the Year award and based on those numbers, Hull fans believe he will make an impact again in the English third tier.
Grant McCann’s side were relegated from the Championship last season, but with Docherty in the engine room, plenty of supporters are confident about going back up at the first attempt.
