Rangers are reportedly on the verge of signing Cyriel Dessers, and what Pierre van Hooijdonk has said about the Ibrox-bound striker is surely going to encourage the fans.
The Daily Record (print edition, back page and page 55, July 1, 2023) have claimed that Rangers have had a bid for Cyriel Dessers accepted by his club Cremonese.
The report has claimed that the Nigeria international striker, who helped Feyenoord reach the final of the UEFA Europa Conference League in 2021-22 during his loan spell at the Dutch club, will now open talks with Rangers before undergoing a medical and then putting pen to paper on a contract.
Former Feyenoord striker Van Hooijdonk has raved about Dessers and has noted what makes the Nigerian so good.
Praise for Rangers-bound Cyriel Dessers
The Daily Record quotes Van Hooijdonk as saying about Dessers: “It’s a good argument that Cyriel Dessers’ career is very similar to mine. He is a goal thief too, but also works extremely hard.
“His work ethic is excellent. I really like him. We even look a bit similar from when I was a player!
“If you compare our styles, neither of us has what I would call a polished style. We both look awkward in the way we play and we both rely on our physical attributes.
“And we both managed to get NAC Breda promoted before playing for Feyenoord so there are definite similarities. I spent a long time talking to Cyriel when he was at Feyenoord. He’s a very likeable guy and I think he’s enjoying a wonderful career.”

Encouraging
Pierre van Hooijdonk’s analysis of Cyriel Dessers is hugely encouraging for Rangers fans.
The striker is at the top of his game at the moment, and the 28-year-old will be expected to make an immediate impact at Rangers.
Dessers seems to be a striker who works hard for the team and contributes even when he is not scoring goals.
The striker made 19 starts and seven substitute appearances in Serie A for Cremonese last season.
Dessers scored six goals and gave two assists in those matches.
