Highly-rated Rangers youth player Harris O’Connor has secured a loan move to SPFL League Two strugglers Brechin City.
The transfer was confirmed by the Rangers Youth Academy Twitter account on Wednesday, with the player heading out until the end of the season.
The 18-year-old centre-back played for Charlton and Kilmarnock before joining the Gers and impressed Graeme Murty last season during a brief stint with the U20s and Colts sides.
O’Connor made one substitute appearance in the UEFA Youth League and was named the bench for the Challenge Cup quarter-final against Wrexham at Ibrox.
“Harris is another player who impressed us in a closed-door friendly,” said Brechin City manager Michael Paton after the move had been confirmed [Brechincity.com]. “He is a young, composed defender who reads the game very well and is willing to put his head in where it hurts.”
“It’s another great addition to the squad and we are delighted he is now on board.”
It’s a first loan spell away from Ibrox for the Scotland youth international but there will be a familiar face at Glebe Park in fellow Rangers Academy prospect Chris McKee, who moved on loan to Brechin last week.
The City are currently bottom of the fourth tier with just four points from nine matches but haven’t played since Boxing Day.
League Two is set to return on Saturday 20th March and both O’Connor and McKee will be hoping to make their debuts in a home fixture against Stranraer.
Meanwhile, Rangers have received a possible transfer boost with an Ibrox-linked winger reportedly back on the market.
