High-spending Premier League outfit Aston Villa are reportedly considering a move for Rangers star Borna Barisic as their summer of investment continues.

The Villa Park club enjoyed a solid season in the English top-flight last year, finishing in 11th place and improving on a 17th place finish the campaign previously.

But as Dean Smith and his charges look ahead to next season the club has wasted no time in investing in the squad as they splash £38m to bring Norwich City attacker Emiliano Buendia to the club.

A club-record fee, the Villains were said to have beaten off interest from the likes of Arsenal for the Argentine and according to the latest reports the ambitious side aren’t done there.

The likes of Ashley Young, Tammy Abraham and James Ward-Prowse have all been linked but for Rangers fans the fact Villa have been mentioned alongside Borna Barisic is most pertinent.

Football Insider – who were first to break Rangers links to Danilho Doekhi and Ivan Lepinjica this window – are claiming that Borna is on the shortlist of Villa, Arsenal and Wolves this summer.

They are claiming that football agent Simon Conning has been sounded out to broker a move in comments which will alert Gers supporters.

At the very least, this report’s publication would suggest that this representative may well be seeking to drum up interest via the media.

This follows up claims from the same provider that Leeds United are also interested in the Croatian full-back.

Currently injured on international duty with Croatia at Euro 2020, Borna represents one of the Ibrox club’s major assets and is currently contract to the Gers until 2023.

The Ibrox support will be eager to see Borna, 29, stay at the club and if it were up to him, the Croat wouldn’t be going anywhere.
