Several months back, the Daily Star reported that Rangers and Celtic were both interested in Lawrence Shankland.
Now, the Scottish Sun mentions the Gers in connection with the Ayr United star, but reports that competition for his signature is hotting up.

It’s claimed that Jack Ross’ Sunderland have tabled a bid for the 23-year-old.
Furthermore, Rangers’ SPL rivals, Hearts, are now also said to be interested and have made contact.

This comes after Portsmouth also reportedly entered the running earlier this week [Portsmouth News].
The Scottish Sun report suggests that Shankland’s decision on his future is imminent. He’s currently on holiday but will make a call shortly after returning to the country.

Verdict

It’s hardly surprising that so many clubs are circling around Shankland. He netted a whopping 34 goals in all competitions for Ayr United last season.
Furthermore, as his contract there has expired, he’s available on a free transfer.
Although he is unproven at a higher level than the Scottish second tier, his signing carries no financial risk.

One advantage that Rangers hold, is that the forward is reportedly a blue nose. Surely, then, no matter what the interest from England, if the Gers table a bid, he would choose Ibrox?
Having already secured the likes of
Jones Jones and Steven Davis for nothing, Rangers should cut ahead of the competition and swoop.
If they sit back and watch him move to a rival club like Hearts and he does well, it would be a tough one to take.
Meanwhile, a club insider has rubbished links to seven players.
