The Daily Record reports that Glenn Middleton is to join Doncaster Rovers on loan.

This news comes after the winger’s social media activity earlier aroused suspicion about his potential Ibrox departure.

In moving to Donny, Middleton will link up with Grant McCann. The League One outfit’s manager is a former Northern Ireland international and known blue nose.

Last season, he guided Rovers to a sixth-place finish in the third tier.

It seems Middleton is opting to leave Ibrox temporarily in search of first-team football.

He turned out 28 times for the Gers last season [Soccerbase] and showed great potential. However, he was used sparingly after Christmas, making just three substitute appearances.

Steven Gerrard has since strengthened in wide areas. Jake Hastie and Jordan Jones have joined the club, a loan deal has reportedly been agreed for Sheyi Ojo [Daily Record] and Jamie Murphy is back fit.

Therefore, Middleton was always going to be up against it to get a place in the side.

Now, it looks like he has a chance to go and test himself in a challenging league. The likes of Greg Docherty, Jason Holt, Jak Alnwick, and Joe Dodoo all played in League One last season.

At 19, this will be a crucial year for the talented winger’s development.
