Young Rangers winger Glenn Middleton has followed English League One outfit Doncaster Rovers on Twitter amid ongoing talk over his future.
The talented 19-year-old is reportedly set to be sent on loan, with more first-team minutes essential to his development.
Sending Gers youngsters down south has worked before in the cases of Greg Docherty and Jordan Rossiter. And now, Middleton may well be looking at a move to the Yorkshire club.
Whilst this is no suggestion Middleton is on his way, it’s peculiar that he’d follow Doncaster Rovers.
The youngster enjoyed a breakthrough season at Ibrox last year but fell away in the second half of the campaign.
He exploded onto the scene with direct running, pace and sublime finishing. Still a teenager, the youngster has the world at his feet and bags of ability.
A loan move would really benefit his development, with Rangers eyeing new signings going into the summer and his game time limited.
The club has already beefed up their options in the former Norwich youth’s position with the signing of Jordan Jones.
Should Middleton move down south, to Doncaster or anywhere else, it will be with the promise of more first-team football.
And should he impress, Middleton may well end up just as lauded as Greg Docherty. The Rangers midfielder picked up a rake of awards for a stunning season with League One Shrewsbury Town.
