Michael Beale has been looking to sign a defender for Rangers since it became apparent that Filip Helander wasn’t going to get fit with Harry Souttar the latest name to be linked.

John’s little brother has made a good career for himself in his own right, moving to England at a young age before a reported £15m move to Leicester City after the World Cup in January.

Almost immediately after Rangers were linked with a move for Harry Souttar, the move was played down by Michael Beale, however, what would the towering stopper bring to the back four.

First of all, if you think John Souttar is big and Connor Goldson is a unit, Harry is on another level.

At 6ft 5inches tall, he would be the biggest outfield player in the squad which plays a key part in his biggest asset.

What Rangers would get it they signed Harry Souttar

Looking on DataMB, the Rangers linked centre-half has two key qualities that were measured during the 2022/23 season.

His aerial ability and his ability to win his personal duels.

Harry Souttar is a defensive monster who rarely loses a one-to-one battle.

It’s not really a surprise given how big he is.

His distribution isn’t as good as his older brother but he still looks to progress up the park, however, playing for a team that got relegated is never going to create perfect statistics for a centre-half.

Given that Leicester only signed Souttar Jnr in January, any move from Rangers would likely only be a loan which doesn’t make much sense.

What he is though, is exactly what Rangers have been missing for long periods of time – the perfect Filip Helander replacement.
