Rangers-linked Tasos Douvikas scored what could prove to be his final goal for Utrecht, as the Greek striker kept the club’s Europa League hopes alive against Sparta Rotterdam.

The 23-year-old forward showed his lethal instincts by netting in the second half for the Eredivisie side to keep them in the hunt for a spot in next season’s competition. Watch the goal about 10 minutes into the video below.

Sparta Rotterdam had raced into a 2-0 first half lead in the Eredivisie’s Europa League Playoffs, with Tasos Douvikas’s second-half goal meaning the game finished 2-1.

Utrecht have it all to do in the return leg having lost at home to Sparta, who will host their Dutch rivals in Rotterdam over the weekend.

The other Playoff semi-final, between Heerenveen and FC Twente, finished 2-1 to Twente with the winners of both ties playing a two-legged final to secure the Europa League spot.

Utrecht’s hopes of an away day turnaround will be pinned on Tasos Douvikas, who may well have already netted his final goal for the side with this strike.

Utrecht striker Tasos Douvikas linked to Rangers

Rangers have a vested interest in what happens given those extensive links to Tasos Douvikas, who netted his 21st goal of the season in the clash with Sparta.

Rangers will reportedly have to pay £6m to realise any interest in Tasos Douvikas and it has got plenty of Ibrox supporters talking heading into the summer window.

The club has already announced the fourth signing of Michael Beale’s tenure in Dujon Sterling, with reports suggesting signing a five and six are imminent.

However, there remains so much conjecture surrounding the striker position with Rangers set to lose Alfredo Morelos and major doubts surrounding Kemar Roofe and Antonio Colak, albeit for different reasons.

The potentially expensive links to Douvikas also come after interesting comments Beale made about the club perhaps shelling out for a striker this summer.

When speaking to the press about who would be the man to replace Alfredo Morelos at Ibrox, Beale claimed that “good strikers cost quite a bit of money”.
