This was after a Sam Gallagher own goal had equalised for Sheffield Utd following a Bereton Diaz’ penalty in an eventful first-half.

Sammie Szmodics would then put Blackburn ahead around the hour mark but it was Rangers fan Oliver McBurnie who pulled his side back into the match with nine minutes to play.

The striker showed his class with a quick turn into the Blackburn box before neatly finishing across the Blackburn goalkeeper to send Bramall Lane into delirium.

The quality of the strike even caught the eye of Rangers legend Ally McCoist, who claimed that he “can’t get enough” of the fine goal.

Tommy Doyle’s goal would then guide the Blades to Wembley with the club drawing the relentless Man City in the FA Cup semi-final at England’s national stadium.

If they hope to make the Final then Oliver McBurnie and his teammates will need to overcome the fine form of Erling Haaland, who netted another treble in the Citizen’s 6-0 win over Burnley at the weekend.

A staunch bluenose, Rangers have been repeatedly linked to Oliver McBurnie throughout his career as a result, but the goal comes at an interesting time for the striker.

Costing Sheffield Utd a reported £20m in 2019 [the Guardian], the player’s contract is up at the end of the season meaning that the striker is available on a free contract.

There is decent pedigree there and Rangers could certainly do worse than look at McBurnie, who could bring a prime Kyle Lafferty-like quality to Ibrox.

Meanwhile, another Championship Rangers-linked striker in Joel Piroe drew a blank at the weekend.
