Joel Piroe plays for Swansea as ex-Celtic star steals show amid Gers links

Swansea striker Joel Piroe played the full 90 minutes against Bristol City but failed to find the back of the net amid high-profile links to Rangers this week.

The Dutch forward, 23, has been on fine form for the Swans this season but was unable to add to his tally 14 goals for the campaign in the eventual 2-0 victory in Wales.

Instead, it was up to Welsh U21 international Liam Cullen and a familiar face in ex-Celtic midfielder Olivier Ntcham to steal the show as Russell Martin’s side went up to 16th in the table.

Rangers-linked Joel Piroe plays for Swansea

Rangers fans will have one eye on the performances of Joel Piroe from now until the end of the season after reports of Ibrox interest emerged earlier in the week.

A former Netherlands U20 youth international, there is some strong pedigree there and Rangers have been linked alongside a host of English Championship promotion hopefuls.

Football League World claim the Ibrox club have been watching Joel Piroe alongside the likes of Burnley, Norwich City and Middlesbrough ahead of a summer of change at Ibrox.

Rangers are expected to invest heavily in their forward line this summer with the future of Alfredo Morelos not yet decided and Kemar Roofe a consistent injury doubt.

It leaves Antonio Colak – himself suffering an injury this season – as potentially the only reliable striker in the squad and it means the club could sign two new forwards come the summer window.

Gers might have to cough up

If Rangers do want to sign Joel Piroe, then they will be expected to cough up, with interest in the Premier League from the likes of Crystal Palace and Everton also mooted.

About to enter the final year of his Swansea contract, we’d be surprised if the Welsh outfit managed to recoup the £20m [Daily Mail] he was valued at by Russell Martin’s side back in the summer.

Whilst we don’t expect Rangers to cough up anywhere near this amount, any signing of Joel Piroe would represent a statement of intent and we’re sure this won’t be the end of those links to the Swansea striker.

Meanwhile, there has been an update on the future of Ridvan Yilmaz.
