From Auchenhowie reject to superpower target for Rangers one that got away

Lewis Ferguson continues to go from strength to strength in Serie A as the one-time Rangers transfer target reinforces how much of a mistake it was to let him slip by.

Decisions like paying £3m for Sam Lammers only makes matters worse as the Scotland international leads his side’s charge for Champions League football.

Rangers manager Philippe Clement would have loved to have inherited Lewis Ferguson but it now looks certain for the 24-year old to be moving on in the summer, but it won’t be to Ibrox.

The frustrating thing is, we had him, and let him go the, was offered him and turned him down.

Barry Ferguson has spoken in the past about the time his nephew was released from the academy at Auchenhowie as a 14-year old before rebuilding his career at Hamilton and with every passing month it makes this decision look even worse.

Now, according to Sky Sports, even if Bologna don’t make the Champions League, it looks as though Ferguson will.

Juventus and Napoli are the two sides credited with an interest according to Sky Sports, although the latter currently sit below Bologna in the league as they struggle to follow up their title success of last season.

One thing is for sure, Ferguson won’t be short of offers.

With six goals and five assists from midfield, he is one of the most productive midfielders in the league.

Not only that, but he is one of the most athletic players too when you consider the distances that he covers every game and the number of high-speed runs he makes.

Basically, he is a manager’s dream.

Add these qualities to the fact that he is always available and it’s little wonder that so many clubs are chasing his signature.

It’s just a shame that Rangers can no longer afford to be one of them.
