Former Rangers winger Chris Burke has signed a new one-year contract at Kilmarnock despite transfer interest from other clubs [Kilmarnockfc.co.uk].
Burke began his professional career at Ibrox and spent seven years there between 2002 and 2009.
He then headed south and represented several clubs including Cardiff and Birmingham City, before returning to Scottish football in 2016.
After a brief stint at Ross County, he joined Killie and has been a key player there ever since, racking up 23 goals and 36 assists from 142 appearances.
Burke suffered relegation from the Premiership with the Ayrshire outfit last season via the playoffs and took some time to consider his future, with other clubs showing interest.
However, he ultimately decided to stay on at Rugby Park.
“It feels excellent to extend my stay here,” he said [Kilmarnockfc.co.uk] “I had to do what was best for myself and the football club as well.”
“Everybody was hurt by what had happened so I think you have to strip back the emotions and try to think rationally and that’s probably why it took two or three weeks.
“I was humbled by the interest in me but ultimately I couldn’t see myself pulling on another jersey and that’s what it came down to.”
Burke won a league title and a league cup during his time at Rangers and now he’ll have his sights set on helping Kilmarnock to the Championship title and automatic promotion back to the top flight.
At 37, he’s now very much a veteran, but the news delighted Killie fans, with many praising his loyalty after the announcement.
Meanwhile, a striker who played alongside Burke at Ibrox has found a new club overseas after a brief period as a free agent.
