Fener president comments give Rangers hope amid Michy Batshuayi development

Rangers interest in signing Michy Batshuayi was the most exciting transfer rumour we’ve seen for some time as the Fenerbahce striker gets set to move.

Earning a place in Belgium’s European Championship squad appears to be his major motivation and regular game time under the lights at Ibrox would give him that chance.

Despite reports that Glasgow is unlikely to be his next destination, comments from Fenerbahce’s president Ali Koc suggest that Rangers only have to persuade Michy Batshuayi that Philippe Clement’s squad is the place to be.

Do Rangers have any chance of signing Michy Batshuayi?

The Gers boss has tried to sign the mercurial forward in the past when he was manager of Bruges and, you never know, he might be more successful this time around.

With 27 international goals in 53 appearances for Belgium, Batshuayi is a class above anything we have just now, this record looks even more impressive when you realise that the 30-year old has started just 26 time for his country.

It’s been a similar story at most of the clubs he has been at, frequently being used as the man to come off the bench or to play second fiddle to the first-choice option.

Because of this, Michy Batshuayi is looking for somewhere else to call home, somewhere he will be the main man ahead of the European Champsionships this summer and why not Rangers?

Speaking to En Son Saber, Koc revealed what the club’s stance is on the talented hitman:

“I have told him If you want to stay, there is a place for you in Fenerbahce.

“But if you are restless when you are on the bench, it will affect the team.

“Let us know your final decision as soon as possible.”

It surely can’t be as simple as that?

If it is, you’d like to back Rangers to be in with a shout given the Belgian contingent at the club and our style of play.

“Batsman” would get the chances that he thrives on and would provide the short-term support to allow Danilo and Kemar Roofe to rehabilitate without being rushed back.

It would be some deal if Rangers can pull it off, all we need to do now is persuade Michy Batshuayi that scoring loads of goals and winning trophies could be a lot of fun.

What is the latest on Batshuayi?

Sadly, it looks as though any chance of signing the Fenerbahce striker hinge on more than just the player.

Sky Sports have claimed that a deal is “unlikely” and Heart and Hand’s David Edgar has been in contact with the club directly about the sensational rumour.

“Club say nothing in the Michy Batshuayi rumours.

“Seems Belgian press are just linking any available Belgian with Big Phil!”

The Heart and Hand report came out about the same time as the Sky Sports one which is strange considering there had been a string of reliable journalists claim that Rangers were interested in Michy Batshuayi.

Not only that, but the original report went as far as to say that Philippe Clement was at the head of the queue.

After scoring in Fenerbahce’s recent league game – Edin Dzeko had already scored a hat-trick – the Belgian international won’t have done his chances of attracting a bit more attention any harm at all.

Not that he will be short of offers, unfortunately though, it looks like there won’t be any from us, regardless of what Ali Koc says.
