Rangers striker Alfredo Morelos has been the subject of much transfer interest from FC Porto but according to one ex-Gers captain, the move isn’t even “on the table”.

Former Ibrox skipper Craig Moore has connections across football and claims that according to his sources in the Iberian nation, FC Porto are not moving for the Colombian striker.

These comments come after weeks of reports originating in Portugal regarding a move for Morelos with claims of a £10m fee rising to around £15m (€12m-€17m) [A Bola].

“From my connections and people that I speak to in Portugal, the Porto thing is not on the table, it’s not even on the table,” said Moore [GO Radio Football Show 05/07/21].

“But obviously we keep hearing about it. I would not be surprised if at some stage a club does come in for Morelos because he’s at a good age.

“25-years-old, scores goals, has scored goals at the top, top level, not only domestically but in European football where he had an incredible run.

“There’s always going to be interest but eventually there comes a timeline in terms of ‘if the player is going to leave, then it needs to be done by this time, otherwise we crack on with business’.”

This will be a refreshing set of comments to Rangers fans as the Portuguese media continue to try and milk the traction from the story.

That said, Portuguese outlet Record have claimed today that talk of negotiations being concluded are wide of the mark.

Moore’s comments also back up the claims of Rangers manager Steven Gerrard who claims the club want Morelos fit for the first game of the season.

“We all know how proud Alfredo is to represent Colombia,” Gerrard told RangersTV.

“He’s on the other side of the world but we’ve still got eyes on him and we’re still in contact with him.

“When he finishes at the tournament he’ll have a short break and then he’ll come back to join us for the rest of pre-season and we’ll try and get him ready for game one as well.

“It’s important that he does the right things when he stops until he comes back because he’ll have a very short pre-season and we need Alfredo to be fit and firing for the games coming our way.”

Whilst it looks like talk of a Morelos exit to FC Porto appears short-lived, one Ibrox incoming has left a £20m bluenose salivating down south.
