Former Rangers player Liam Kelly has returned to the Scottish Premiership and Motherwell fans are over the moon with his signing [Motherwellfc.co.uk].

Kelly came up through the ranks at Auchenhowie and broke into the first-team squad in 2015 but ultimately left in 2018 after growing frustrated at a lack of playing time.

Following a strong campaign at Livingston, he linked up with former Gers boss Mark Warburton at QPR in the summer of 2019 but fell down the pecking order at Loftus Road last season.

He spent the second half of 2020/21 on loan at Motherwell, keeping seven clean sheets and winning the Players’ Player of the Year award, and now he’s returned to Fir Park on a three-year deal.

“I’m absolutely delighted to be back at Motherwell,” the 25-year-old said in a video tweeted by the Steelmen.

“I’m really excited for the season ahead and I can’t wait to see you all back inside Fir Park soon.”

The former Ger always had plenty of talent but he’s developed considerably since leaving Ibrox and returns to the Premiership as one of the best goalkeepers in the division.

Motherwell supporters have been urging their club to sign him up for some time and they were delighted when the announcement was made on Monday night.

Kelly will first be in action against Rangers on matchday six of the new season, with the fixture currently scheduled for Saturday 18th September at Ibrox.

By that time, new Gers signing John Lundstram should be well up to speed and a £20m bluenose has dropped an exciting response to the 27-year-old’s capture.
