Fabrizio Romano makes Xavi Simons claim amid Rangers links

Leading transfer journalist Fabrizio Romano has claimed that Rangers-linked Xavi Simons will pen a new deal with PSG.

The 19-year-old playmaker has been a bit-part player for the Ligue 1 side this season and as his contract ticked down in France there were murmurs of Rangers interest.

This originated from reports in January, which had Rangers fans scouring the internet for YouTube videos of what the youngster could offer.

The claims were suspiciously ambitious given Xavi Simons’ standing in the game, the youngster considered amongst the brightest talents in Europe.

But given the Ibrox side’s Dutch coaching contingent there was a flicker of hope that any prospective Rangers interest could be true.

Now, Fabrizio Romano has moved to shut down claims that Xavi Simons could be on his way out of PSG by claiming the youngster was always going to sign a new deal.

This is despite three unnamed clubs making an approach for the kid, with the details being ironed out with PSG’s new sporting director Luis Campos.

It means that those ambitious Rangers links to Xavi Simons appear dead ahead of the transfer window with Fabrizio Romano regarded one of the top voices in this regard.

Rangers fans are gearing up for a summer of investment after two lacklustre windows seen Celtic close the gap on the Ibrox side’s squad.

New manager Giovanni van Bronckhorst will be hoping to put his own stamp on the side and there is excitement at Ibrox ahead of next season.

Meanwhile, a former Rangers star claims that a seemingly exit bound Ibrox star actually wants to stay.
